Master Composter Megan Brosterman bought her HOTBIN in March and have harvested from it about four times by now. Initially, Megan looked into buying HOTBIN after reading that it could keep steady temperatures above 104°F, which she has read is capable of killing jumping worms and their eggs. Jumping worms are an invasive species prevalent where she lives in Central New York, and she has seen several cold composting piles infested with them. “The best part for me is that everything goes in! Meat, bones, eggs, dairy (if we weren’t a dairy-free #dairyallergy house). No more separating any food waste! I’ll make chicken stock and bone broth and just dump all the scraps in together, and bones are disintegrated as well! I even throw in funky garden waste because the temps get high enough to destroy pathogens. HOTBIN works, and it works fast!!”
“Even with all the grossness of decomposing waste inside, it doesn’t stink as long as you keep up with adding leaves and wood chips each time you add food scraps.
