Sustainable innovation for everyday life
HOTBIN Composting US is part of Engineered Foam Products (EFP), a global manufacturer specializing in expanded polypropylene (EPP) and expanded polystyrene solutions used across automotive, packaging, and consumer applications.
With decades of experience engineering high-performance foam products, EFP is uniquely positioned to develop sustainable, long-lasting solutions that improve everyday life - including thermally efficient products like the HOTBIN composting system.

Engineered for Faster, Cleaner Home Composting
The HOTBIN is an aerobic hot composting bin designed to reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfill by making home composting faster, cleaner, and easier.
Manufactured using expanded polypropylene (EPP), the HOTBIN’s insulated structure retains heat generated naturally by composting bacteria. This creates the conditions needed to break down food and garden waste efficiently, allowing users to produce nutrient-rich compost at home in as little as 30–90 days.
What Makes the HOTBIN Different
Compost More
Send less to landfill! HOTBIN reaches 104°F, letting you compost more, like cooked food, small bones, and weeds that cold heaps can’t handle - All year round!
30-90 Days
Naturally reaching hot composting temperatures of 104-140°F, HOTBIN super-cooks waste for fast and efficient aerobic composting, ready in as little as 30-90 days!
Super Easy
You DON’T need to be a master composter or have any gardening experience to use a HOTBIN! Effortlessly recycle your waste into rich compost at home - no turning or tumbling required.

The Origin Story
HOTBIN was invented by Tony Callaghan in collaboration with Engineered Foam Products in 2010. But Tony’s passion for composting started much earlier - back when he was just 15 years old, working on an allotment alongside a generous neighbor nearly 70 years his senior, who passed down the fundamentals of successful composting. Life was good, and so was the compost.
Years later, Tony returned to composting at home, and quickly became frustrated. Traditional pallet systems and plastic “dalek-style” bins accepted plenty of waste, but failed to produce consistent, usable compost even after a year. They were messy, unreliable, and far from rewarding.
The turning point came when a rat jumped out of the compost bin toward Tony’s wife, prompting an ultimatum:
“You have two choices, either sort it out or STOP Composting”
Elaine Callaghan circa 2008
Stopping didn’t appeal, so Tony chose a different path. He immersed himself in composting science, research, and experimentation - focusing on how to compost more waste types, faster, without odors, pests, or constant maintenance.
The goal was simple: make composting efficient, clean, and practical for everyday households.
Armed with this knowledge, Tony built the first HOTBIN prototype. Soon after, he partnered with manufacturing specialists Engineered Foam Products (EFP). The HOTBIN composting system officially launched in November 2011 and was acquired by EFP in 2013. Early exposure in publications such as Gardeners’ World and RHS The Garden helped propel the next generation HOTBIN to rapid success.

Designed to Reduce Waste, Built to Last
By composting more waste at home, HOTBIN helps reduce landfill use while producing peat-free compost that can be returned directly to gardens and soil.
The combination of durable materials, efficient design, and long product lifespan means HOTBIN is built as a long-term solution - not a disposable one.
