I am happy to share my observations and documentation from HOTBIN use, focusing on its effectiveness in composting alongside food scraps and minimal garden waste in a home setting.

I’ve been very impressed with its performance. Internal temperatures exceeded 100°F within the first three weeks and, with regular carbon additions, temperatures were consistently maintained in the 95–120°F range for extended periods. Sustained elevated temperatures made the composting process highly effective.

Observations and Results
Over the first six months, I processed a mix of materials including everyday food scraps and a small amount of garden material. Organic materials performed well, including avocado pits, eggshells,  and woody materials used for airflow.

Certified Compostable Fiber-based materials (i.e., paper plates, cups, napkins, and fiber bowls) broke down completely early in the process, with no visible remains. PLA-based materials (cups, knives, forks, and lids, as expected, required more time to fully decompose. These slower-decomposing items were simply returned to the HOTBIN for additional cycles. (HOTBIN recommends adding water to help accelerate breakdown during the first cycle).

Where is my HOTBIN Located?
My HOTBIN is located near a frequently used outdoor space, and I have experienced no noticeable odors or pest issues. It has comfortably handled the materials generated in a household of two who regularly cook from scratch.

Conclusion
Based on my experience, I strongly recommend HOTBIN as a reliable, space-efficient solution for low-effort, high-success composting at home. It consistently maintains elevated temperatures that accelerate decomposition, reduce odors and pests, and effectively process a wide range of organic materials when basic management practices are followed. I view HOTBIN as a practical and dependable system for everyday, backyard composting.

This will be my first season applying harvested HOTBIN compost to the garden, and I look forward to seeing the results.
